It is with great sadness that I have decided to leave our great Association after 13 years and will not be renewing my TSVA membership in 2006. In all that time I have worked tirelessly for merchant seafarers and fully supported the Vindicatrix Association by actions and in newspapers and BBC radio. My decision has been made easier by the actions of one man, Mr. R. Derham, over the past years and ultimately at the 2005 Sharpness Reunion. His obvious contempt and hatred for anyone who questions him is beyond the pale and his "respect" for those Vindi Boys who fought for freedom of speech plumbed new depths at Sharpness. Anyone who disagrees with him is told to join the M.N.A. I can no longer be a part of an association where questions are considered as treachery and respect for our dead is not accepted. I will however, continue to support the Vindicatrix, the Sharpness Reunion and the Merchant Navy as we are one and the same. The great comaraderie that we all enjoy WILL continue and the only one to destroy the TSVA will be Mr. R. Derham himself. I look forward to continueing contact with those true "Vindi Boys" who respect free speech, free thought and our original aims of comradeship within our great association.
Phil Hughes, 1958 Deck.

It was very disappointing to read on the other Vindi Sites, that Phil Hughes had resigned from the TSVA. He will be sorely missed after all the sweat and toil that he has put into the TSVA.
It is good to know that he is not turning his back on all Vindiboys, and will continue to be involved in Branch issues, and attend the Reunions where and whenever they are held.
Three Cheers for Phil. Cheers from JP ps It's nice to see the site up and running again. Keep up the great work Alan, and Congratulations

Welcome to the club fellas. Great to see you have put it all together. I have no doubt that your group will grow and we now have another hand joining the world of the Vindi. The song from long ago means more now than it did then. "We are Some of the Vindi Boys" Who would have thought that over the years we could still get together and be proud of our navy beginings. All the best. Jack

May I express my sincere congratulations to all involved in setting up your WA Branch and the website. From what I see you will receive many more hits as news gets around and you have something to display on your pages. I certainly look forward to visiting again and hope to contribute something in the future from this side of the world. Well done to WA.
Phil Hughes. (East Kent Branch Secretary)

This is posted by his daughter-in-law in England as he has no computer or internet access (says he's too old!). He phoned me to ask me to look at Vindicatrix website in England and they gave us yours too.
